What is the Southern Georgian Bay O.P.P. Detachment Board?
The Southern Georgian Bay O.P.P. Detachment Board is a new board created based on the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019.
The Board will be responsible for completing mandatory board training, oversight of the O.P.P. Detachment Commander’s local action plan, presenting an annual report to each Council, preparing rules and procedures, creating by-laws, local policies, and board policies, and preparing board estimates/budget to Councils for board operations.
What happens to the Midland Police Services Board?
The Midland Police Services Board will no longer exist as of March 31, 2024. The last meeting of the Midland Police Services Board will take place on Friday March 8, 2024. See the agenda here.
How many community members will be on the Detachment Board?
One (1) community representative will be appointed from each of the following municipalities:
- Town of Midland
- Town of Penetanguishene
- Township of Tay
- Township of Tiny
- The District Municipality of Muskoka (Township of Georgian Bay)

How do community members apply to the Detachment Board?
Eligible and interested community members are invited to submit a letter of interest as detailed in the Call for Applications package. The deadline to submit applications is April 2, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
What other representatives make up the Detachment Board?
In addition to the community representatives, there will be a total of five Council appointees (one from each municipality), and three Provincial appointees, to form a thirteen member board.
