Midland's Premier Waterfront Development
Midland Bay Landing is the transformation of the 40-acre waterfront property from its former industrial uses into a vibrant, mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented and accessible neighbourhood to help rejuvenate Midland and its historic, recently revitalized Downtown and the Harbour.
Following the withdrawal of an agreement of purchase and sale by a developer, and the dissolvement of the Midland Bay Landing Development Corporation, the Town developed a new two phase approach. Phase 1 included the issuance of a Request for Proposals to retain the services of a consultant(s) to assist the Town with the creation of a larger Request for Proposals to attract a developer(s) for the property (Phase 2).
Phase 1 was completed, and KPMG LLP was selected to assist the Town with the development of Phase 2. Details related to this ongoing Phase, including community engagement opportunities are provided on the Engaging Midland webpage.

As the site is contaminated from former industrials uses, extensive environmental sampling was conducted and the Town followed the regulatory and risk assessment process as prescribed by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). See links below to studies completed.

MECP Certificate of Property Use |
A Certificate of Property Use (CPU) from the MECP is now registered on Title on the development land (July 2022). In general, the environmental requirements as described in the CPU and as approved by the MECP, require that the contaminated soil be covered with either concrete, asphalt or other hard surfaces, or by adding one metre of clean soil on top of the site. |
