Flag Raising - National Indigenous People's Day

Staff and members of council gather with Greg Garratt, President Georgian Bay Métis Council, for a flag raising for National Indigenous Peoples Day. Today we hold space to learn about the traditions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We recognize the immense wisdom, knowledge, and traditions passed down through generations. We recognize the deep connection Indigenous peoples have with the land, their profound respect for nature, and their sustainable ways of life. Today also is a time for honest reflection, to understand the painful history that was forced on Indigenous people and their culture.
