Midland Declares Council Vacancy to be filled by Appointment

(February 15, 2024, Midland ON) Councillor Beth Prost was sworn in as Deputy Mayor on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, and a Council vacancy was declared at the same meeting to fill the vacant Councillor seat.
Legislation requires that Council must fill the vacancy within 60 days of the declaration. The Clerk was authorized to request applications from interested persons by a call for nominations. Following the nomination period Council will vote to appoint one qualified candidate at a Special Meeting of Council to be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024.
To be considered for the position, candidates must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- 18 years of age or older
- a resident of Midland, or own or rent property in Midland (or be the spouse of the owner or renter)
- not legally forbidden from voting or from holding municipal office.
Applications open on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Interested individuals can attend the customer service counter at the Town of Midland municipal office at 575 Dominion Avenue to request a nomination package. Completed nominations must be filed in person at the municipal office by appointment only with the Town Clerk or a designated staff member.
Nominations close on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. The municipal office is open to the public during regular business hours Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.
