Today, staff gathered with Mayor Gordon to lower the flags at Town hall in observance of the Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace, which takes place annually on April 28.
Mayor Gordon shared some words with staff to mark the importance of safety in the work place and held a moment of silence to pay respect to those who lost their lives or were injured while working.
"Today is we observe the Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace. We gather as a community, to pay respect to those who lost their lives or were injured while working. We solemnly remember their names, their faces, and their impact on the world.
We honour the hard-working people all around Canada who have lost their lives in workplace accidents. We stand in solidarity with those who have been injured at work.
Thank you all again for coming, and thank you to all our staff who work day in and day out for the betterment of our community. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment is truly appreciated. You are the heart and soul of the Town of Midland.
It is essential that we recognize the integral role each of us play, today we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a healthy and safe work environment. Every member of our team deserves to feel valued, supported, and, above all, safe in the workplace.
Let us now lower the flags to remember the lives lost, following that we will hold a moment of silence.
