Midland proclaims International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

Whereas, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is dedicated to globally reaffirm the responsibility to fostering an inclusive, equitable and welcoming space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community,

Whereas, the Town of Midland committed to amplifying the voices of Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans and intersex people, as well as acknowledge the strides made by the 2SLGBTQ+ community despite ongoing systemic barriers and prejudice they experience,

Whereas, the theme for the 2024 edition of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is “No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all”, as announced by ILGA World.

Whereas, every resident and visitor deserves to feel safe in Midland and beyond. The Town of Midland rejects any hatred or discrimination the 2SLGBTQ+ may face in our community and around the world.

Whereas, the Town of Midland is actively building upon the commitment for intersectional gender-based awareness and education by creating brave spaces where people can freely express their gender and sexuality, and participate fully in our society without fear of repercussion.

Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim the 17^th day of May, 2024 as International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia Day in the Town of Midland.
