Whereas; August 31, 2024 is International Overdose Awareness Day, the world’s largest campaign to end overdose, remember without stigma those who have died and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind; and
Whereas; Today stands as a time to acknowledge the profound grief felt by families and friends whose loved ones have died or suffered permanent injury from a drug overdose; and
Whereas; The goal of International Overdose Awareness Day is to build a safe environment for conversations surrounding drug overdoes, amplify the access to information on the range of support services that are available and prevent and reduce drug-related harm by supporting evidence-based policy and practice; and
Whereas; The Town of Midland is committed to sharing the message of International Overdose Awareness Day and create opportunities for discussion involving drug overdose, and encourages all to engage in education about harm reduction, recognizing the signs and symptoms of an overdose, and how to react in order to save a life.
Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim August 31, 2024, as “International Overdose Awareness Day” in the Town of Midland.
