Midland proclaims Pride Month

Whereas, June is recognized as Pride Month in Canada and around the world as an opportunity to celebrate and advocate for visibility and acceptance of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community; to reflect on the trials that the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and plus community have endured and overcome; and to recommit to the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in our community; and

Whereas, Pride Month promotes the call for acceptance and education for a safe and inclusive world that supports and celebrates the 2SLGBTQIA+ community members through services, activities and events; and

Whereas, It is important to reflect on the progress made to recognize and protect the rights of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Midland, while acknowledging there is still work to be done; and

Whereas, Pride Month in Midland is an opportunity to prevent discrimination and promote acceptance, the Town of Midland rejects any hatred or discrimination the 2SLGBTQ+ may face in our community and around the world.

Therefore, I, Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2024 to be “Pride Month”.
