Proclamation
World Water Day
March 22, 2025
Whereas, an international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED). The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating March 22, 1993, as the first World Water Day; and
Whereas, International World Water Day is held annually on March 22nd as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources; and
Whereas, more than 1 billion people do not have access to clean water and 2.6 billion do not have access to basic sanitation services; and
Whereas, each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater with this year being Water and Food Security.
Therefore, I Bill Gordon, Mayor of the Town of Midland hereby proclaim and recognize March 22, 2025, as “World Water Day” and encourage all residents in and around the surrounding community to show the world they care by conserving our water.
