Today members of the community gathered with Mayor Gordon, Councillor Patel, staff and a representative from Candlelighters Simcoe for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In September, we unite for one purpose: to bring hope, strength, and healing to children battling cancer and their families.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, this month we unite for one purpose: to bring hope, strength, and healing to children battling cancer and their families.
First and foremost, it's crucial that we recognize the incredible strength these children and their families have. Their courage in facing the heart-wrenching reality of childhood cancer is nothing short of inspiring.
The painful truth is that there are approximately 10,000 children living with cancer, where every three minutes a family’s life is turned upside down after hearing those devastating words. Our community knows this pain. Whether its you, your family, a friend, a colleague, or even your own child, we all have seen or experienced the impact from childhood cancer.
This month we recognize the dedication of all the scientists, healthcare professionals, parent organizations and volunteers who are working to overcome childhood cancer and assist these families. Their hard work has allowed significant advances in therapy, with 82% of children with cancer surviving five years or more.
Here with us today we have Candlelighters Simcoe, a non-profit organization supporting families and their communities with a childhood cancer journey. This month we continue to echo their message and pledge to make a difference in the lives of the families and children in cancer treatment. Whether it's by raising awareness, volunteering, donating, or simply offering our support and kindness, every effort counts.
Thank you to everyone here today. Thank you so much for Candlelighters for organizing this flag raising and thank you for your efforts as an organization as well as individuals.
