Today, staff gathered with Mayor Gordon and Isabella, from MS Canada, to raise the flags at Town hall and proclaim the Month of May as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month.
Mayor Gordon shared some words with staff to honour those living with MS, their caregivers, and their families. As well as the conversation surrounding access to necessary support and education. Visit MS Canada for more information.
"The purpose of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month is to increase awareness of MS and to encourage people to act in support of those affected by the disease.
MS affects millions of people worldwide, even the small group of us here today we may all know someone who has MS or has been impacted by MS in some way.
For the Month of May we honour those living with MS, their caregivers, and their families. Living with MS can be challenging, and those affected often face many obstacles. This is why advocacy is pertinent to ensure efforts push for increased access to quality healthcare, new therapies and medications, and create equitable policies and practices.
As we reflect on the importance of Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, let us remember that together, we can make a difference. Everyone has the power to make a positive impact in the lives of those affected by MS.
Always continue the conversation, educate ourselves, and take action to support MS research and advocacy. MS Canada is a fantastic resource to start with, find information on MS research, taking action, and even support.
Before we raise the flag, I would like to open the floor for others to share some words." - Mayor Bill Gordon.
