Today Mayor Bill Gordon, gathered with staff and members from the Midland Salvation Army and was joined by Tiny Township Mayor David Evans to raise the Salvation Army flag and kick off the 2024 Kettle Campaign that started on November 21. Thank you to the dedicated team and volunteers with the Salvation Army for all you do.
You can find kettles locally in: Midland at Walmart, Real Canadian Superstore, Canadian Tire, LCBO (in December), and one at the Penetanguishene Village Square Mall.
"Thank you all for coming today. We’re here with representatives from the Midland Salvation Army to celebrate the Kettle Campaign, one of Canada’s largest and most recognizable annual charitable events.
Every time you walk into a grocery store, a mall, or a community centre you see a familiar symbol of the holiday season, the Salvation Army Kettle. In fact, there are more than 2000 kettle locations across Canada that support a wide range of Salvation Army programs.
This year there are five kettles in our area. In Midland, there is one in Walmart, Real Canadian Superstore, Canadian Tire, and another at the LCBO starting in December. As well as one kettle in Penetanguishene Village Square Mall. Funds raised through Midland Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign directly help our community.
Just last week volunteers gathered and packed 120 boxes of food for the Christmas Hamper Program. That is an incredible number. One hundred and twenty families will receive some support and hopefully feel a little bit of ease as we move into the holiday season. Initiatives like these are supported through the kettle campaign.
Additionally, funds gathered this holiday season directly sustain their outreach program and their food bank well into 2025. If you can grab some extra food items on your next shop, you can drop them off to the food bank located at the corner of 2nd and Dominion Ave on weekdays. Some of their most needed items are: Canned meat, Kraft dinner, Peanut butter, Cereal, Canned fruit, Canned vegetables, Crackers, and Gluten free products.
To the volunteers who selflessly give their time, thank you. There are still opportunities to help by signing up for a 2hr shift for the kettle drive.
Thank you to the compassionate staff that support our community, to the people who stop to donate what they can, and to each person with us today – let’s celebrate the kindness and warmth of our residents.
Together we can make a difference in someone's life. Visit the Midland Salvation Army’s website to see how you can get involved and volunteer or donate." - Mayor Bill Gordon
