Proclamation
Black History Month, February 2024
Whereas, Black History Month is a time to learn about the stories and important contributions of local Black Canadians to the settlement, growth and development of Simcoe County, and about diversity of Black communities in Canada and their importance to the history of this country; and
Whereas, February 1 marks the start of Black History Month. February stands as a reminder to honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present, and to recognize and celebrate the significant contributions they continue to make; and
Whereas, The Town of Midland is committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community that opposes racial discrimination in all its forms; and
Whereas, To create impactful change in the Town of Midland and Simcoe County, we recognize it is important that we embrace diversity, foster belonging and inclusion, and continue the conversation year-round.
Therefore I, Mayor Bill Gordon, on behalf of the Town of Midland, do hereby proclaim the month of February 2024 as “Black History Month.”
