For Immediate Release
With air quality conditions from wildfires across Canada appearing to improve in the Midland area for the weekend, the Town wants festivalgoers to know that the event will go ahead as planned and is advising the public to monitor conditions as they plan their day.
Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations. People with lung disease (such as asthma) or heart disease, older adults, children, pregnant people, and people who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke. For more information and for who is at risk, visit Environment Canada at www.weather.gc.ca.
The Festival will have first aid available and 911 should be called for any emergency situations. There are also designated indoor cooling stations available for anyone needing relief at the event, including the Midland Cultural Centre, Midland Public Library and Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce. Visitors are also encouraged to keep hydrated by drinking water throughout the day and can refill their personal water bottles at the Town’s water refill station located at the Harbour.
With concerns for the health of all residents, visitors, volunteers, and vendors at the Festival, the Town will continue to monitor the Air Quality Health Index and follow advice from the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit.
