Pedestrians and vehicles will now encounter two new signalized pedestrian crossovers on William Street. Cross safely at the intersections of William Street and Scott Street and at William Street and Elizabeth Street.
Everyone has a role in making our roads safe. The addition of pedestrian crossovers provides safety for those crossing the road, as well as lessening the severity and frequency of collisions.
Pedestrian Responsibilities:
-
Press the button to turn on the warning lights.
-
Start crossing when it is safe to do so (ie. all vehicles have stopped).
-
Look both ways and stay aware while crossing.
Driver Responsibilities:
-
Follow road signs posted near crossovers.
-
Be vigilant in areas with high pedestrian traffic (ie. school zones, community centres, downtown cores, etc).
-
Drivers are required by law to stop while a pedestrian is using the crossover.
