Everyone has a role in making our roads safe. The Town maintains the traffic signals, pedestrian signals and pedestrian crossovers to keep traffic flowing.

Traffic Calming
The Town of Midland is responsible for ensuring roadways serve the needs of all users such as cars, transit, pedestrians including those with accessibility needs, cyclists, emergency vehicles and snow removal equipment.
What is the purpose of Traffic Calming? |
Traffic calming is intended to improve the quality of life for residents on traffic calmed streets, achieve slower speeds for motor vehicles, and increase the safety for non-motorized users of the street. |
What are Traffic Calming Measures? |
The Town uses a variety of traffic calming measures to reduce dangerous driving and allow residents to enjoy their neighbourhoods. This includes:
|
Is there a policy in place for Traffic Calming? |
In the fall of 2021, the Town adopted a traffic calming guide and policy which outlines the steps to take to start the process of obtaining traffic calming measures. You can read our Traffic Calming Policy and Procedure for full information. |
Can I request Traffic Calming in my neighbourhood? |
To request a traffic calming assessment, please read our full Traffic Calming Policy and Procedure before submitting your request. Once you have read and understood the procedure, you can complete a Traffic Calming Assessment Form. |
Traffic Monitoring
If you've been driving around the Town of Midland, you may have seen our Traffic Monitoring Trailer and pole mounted signs. The Town of Midland Engineering Department monitors traffic speeds on the town roads.
What does the Traffic Monitoring do? |
|
Where do you monitor the traffic speeds? |
The Traffic Monitoring Trailer and signs will be stationed at known hot spots as well as school zones. If you have any areas of concern that you think needs traffic calming, please let us know. |
Why does the town monitor traffic speed? |
The data from the trailer and signs will be used to help generate awareness campaigns, identify the need for more signage, traffic calming measures and possibly speed limit reductions. |
Speed Trailer Reports
These reports are an in-depth review of street locations where the mobile speed trailer and signs have been placed, including graphs and charts comparing volumes, speeds, and times.
