The Town of Midland Engineering Department processes permit applications for the following:
- Property Entrance Permits
- Oversize and Overweight Vehicle and Structure Permits

Property Entrance Permit Applications
All work that will affect the municipal roadway requires a permit. This work includes constructing an entrance, installing a new culvert and any changes made to current entrance.
Please use our Property Entrance Permit Application. What to include with your application:
- All measurements in metres.
- A drawing, plans or photo with the property dimensions, existing driveway width and proposed width. Include distance measurement between the sidewalk and curb.
- Mark any trees, utilities, street lights, hydro poles or other fixtures on the drawing.
- Photos or screenshots taken from Google Maps or Simcoe GIS are also helpful.

Types of Entrance Permits
All entrance permit requests will require an application and design drawings or photos.
Repave Existing Driveway |
Currently, there is no permit required to repave an existing driveway. Property owner assumes all costs and liability. |
Change Entrance (Driveway) Design or Location |
Property owners that would like to alter, widen or move their property entrance. This permit is valid for one year. The entrance needs to pass a final inspection within the permit year. |
Curb Cut |
This permit allows the service of having a section of curb cut. The town contracts out this service. This service provides a cut to the curb only. Property owners are responsible for removal of concrete after the curb cut. Curb cut costs will vary. |
Culvert Replacement |
This permit is valid for replacing damaged culverts. The permit application has no fee. The property owner assumes the cost of culvert and installation. This permits purpose ensures the property entrance complies with the roadway. It also prevents future damage from municipal equipment. This permit tracks the replacement of the culverts on the municipal road allowance. |
Permanent Entrance |
Property owners can install an entrance to a property with submission of a lot grading plan. This permit is valid for one year. The entrance needs installation and final inspection within the permit year. Requirements:

Temporary Entrance |
Property owners that wish to install and entrance onto a property without a lot grading plan. This permit is often used for vacant lot owners to access and clean their lot. This permit is is good for six months. Property owners must submit a lot grading plan after 6 months or apply and pay for another permit. Requirements:

Moving Oversize/Overweight Vehicles and Structures
The Town of Midland requires an Oversize/Overweight Permit when the vehicle or load exceeds the normal limits as set out in the Highway Traffic Act. For full details on the normal limits see the Ministry of Transportation's Manual:
Permit holders accept responsibility for any and all damage that may be caused to overhead wires, structures, highways, encroachments or railway right of ways.
What roads does this Permit cover? |
This Permit is for Town of Midland roads only. Applicants are responsible for any and all other agencies or municipalities while transporting oversized loads. If you will be driving on Country Road 93, Highway 12, Highway 93 or County Road 25 you will need a permit to provide for those. Permit numbers are required at the time of applying for your application to the Town of Midland. |
Do I need to keep this permit in my vehicle? |
Permits must be carried and produced on demand by a police officer or an officer appointed for carrying out the provisions of the Highway Traffic Act. |

Are there any fees for a Oversize/Overweight Permit? |
The applicant is required to pay a fee for all oversized/over weight load permits based upon the number of vehicles identified within the Application Form. Fee amounts can be found within the Town of Midland’s Composite Fee and Charges By-laws, Schedule D, identified as Oversize/Overweight Moving Permits. As stipulated in the Fees and Charges By-Law. |
