Why do we see Coyotes?
The main reason for a coyote to come to a residential area is garbage and food, even domestic cats and dogs. Once they find a source of food or associate food with people or the setting, they can become habituated. Managing attractants is the best way to avoid conflicts and property damage. Coyotes can come to a property by dog food and feces.
How to prevent Coyotes coming to my property?
Clean up after your pets, do not store food, treats or bones outside. Do not leave pets unsupervised at night in areas that may be accessible to coyotes. Ensure that when walking in wooded areas or areas with sightings that dogs are on a leash for safety.
Feeding smaller wildlife, such as mice and squirrels at birdfeeders, can also bring larger predators in.
